MOHAWKS PROVIDE EXTRA FIREWORKS IN SHUTOUT

LITTLE FALLS, NY – It was fireworks night at Veteran’s Memorial Park, but the Amsterdam Mohawks provided some fireworks before the main display.

Amsterdam scored in every inning but the second, giving their rival, the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs to only their second ten-run rule loss of the season, 12-0.

Amsterdam got on the board first, after an RBI single from Josh Overbeek (Cincinnati, OH/Pittsburgh) ripped an RBI single into left-center field. That hit by Overbeek allowed Mark Black (Pittsburgh, PA/Wake Forest) to score. The Mohawks extended the lead to three on a passed ball and a single by

Black struck again in the fourth, scoring two runs on a single hit to right field. That hit would score Connor Moore (Macclenny, FL/Florida State) and Jacob Hand (Niskayuna, NY/WPI). Amsterdam extended their lead on an RBI single to left by Hunter Thomas (Russell Springs, KY/Rand Lake CC). The most damage came in the sixth and seventh, with the Mohawks putting up three runs in each inning, thanks to multiple-RBI hits by Hand and Brett Coker (Henderson, TN/Middle Tennessee State). Their 2-RBI hits managed to push their lead into double digits.

That would be all the Amsterdam bullpen would need, as Collin Brougham (Kansas City, MO/South Alabama) allowed only one base runner the rest of the way to close the books on their 16th win of the season

Aidan Kidd (Laguna Beach, CA/NJIT) got the win for Amsterdam (16-3), while Hayden Duke (Mattapoisett, MA/UMass Lowell) was saddled with the loss for Mohawk Valley (7-9).

The Diamond Dawgs are on the road on Saturday at East Field when they play the Glens Falls Dragons. They will have an off day on Sunday before the two teams play each other again at Veteran’s Memorial Park on Monday.
