DIAMONDDAWGS TO INDUCT LOCAL LEGEND CHARLES “BOOTS” DAY INTO THE MOHAWK VALLEY DIAMONDDAWGS HALL OF FAME; FORMER MAJOR LEAGUE STAR TOMMY JOHN TO GIVE KEYNOTE ADDRESS AND MAJOR DIAMONDDAWGS ANNOUNCEMENT TO BE MADE.

The 4th Annual Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs Hall of Fame Hot Stove Dinner will be held Saturday, February 11, 2012. This year’s Inductee will be former Major Leaguer Charles “Boots” Day, an Ilion native. “We are delighted to induct and honor Boots Day,” said DiamondDawgs President & General Manager Travis Heiser. “Boots is a legend in the Mohawk Valley, and his 45-plus years in professional baseball are testament to his sheer worthiness for this honor.”

Announcing…New DiamondDawgs Head Coach

Little Falls, NY – The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs will have a new face at the helm for the 2012 season. Former professional baseball player Roberto Vaz has been named Head Baseball Coach.

This annual event will “stoke” the fire for all who will be anxiously awaiting the words-“pitchers and catchers”. The final details of the evening will be announced next week.

2011 and 2012 DiamondDawg Hassan Evans Earns Division 1 Scholarship

Hassan Evans, Brooklyn, NY, a 6’ 3” centerfielder and right-handed pitcher for Herkimer CC, has signed to play at Delaware State next season. He is a Liberal Arts & Sciences: General Studies major at Herkimer. Evans hit .305 with five doubles, two triples, and two home runs last year as a freshman and started 30 games in the outfield.

Evans is also getting a lot of attention from major league scouts because of his 96 mph fastball. He struck out 16 batters in nine innings of work last year. Evans played for Xaverian High School in Brooklyn, NY.

With the season now over the entire DiamondDawgs Organization wants to thank everyone that made this season such a success. First off thanks to the players and coaches who day in and day out gave their all on the field. Good luck gentlemen as you return to school and get prepared for the spring season with your respective universities. Secondly thanks to all the volunteers and interns that made the “Dawg Pound” run smoothly all season long. Without all of you this all could not be possible.
