EDISON, N.J. – Fairfield University Baseball freshman Justin Guerrera was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week after hitting .348 with six RBI during Fairfield’s recent 4-1 week. The weekly honor represents the first in Guerrera’s career and the second time this season a Stag was named the conference’s rookie of the week.
“Justin stepped up big this weekend and had a big double on Sunday,” Head Coach Bill Currier said. “He hit the ball hard many times this weekend and we’re really pleased with his progress as a freshman and know he will be an exceptional hitter in the program for years to come.”
Guerrera had a hit in all but one of Fairfield’s five games this week, pacing the Stags with three hits and two RBI in Sunday’s finale win over Siena in the rubber match. Guerrera also had a pair of hits and RBI in Fairfield’s upset victory against No. 22 UConn and blasted a home run against Yale.
Guerrera also had the key double in Fairfield’s win at Siena, breaking a 2-2 tie and leading to Fairfield’s third-straight conference series victory.
For the season, Guerrera places third on the team with 29 hits and 20 runs scored. He is hitting at a .266 clip in the 28 games he has started.
