WOSLEGER COMES UP BIG IN DIAMOND DAWGS’ NARROW VICTORY OVER ONEONTA

LITTLE FALLS, NY – Owen Wosleger came up in a big way for the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs, scoring the game-winning run by legging a hit out. His hit would bring home Mohawk Valley’s game-winning run in a 4-3 victory at Veteran’s Memorial Park on Thursday.

Nick Cimillo (Airmont, NY/Manhattan) proved to the league why he deserved to be an All-Star, starting the game off with a bang with a powerful triple to right field. That hit would score Jake Barbiere (Randolph, NY/Rider) and Justin Guerrera (Watertown, CT/Fairfield). However, the Outlaws would cut the lead in half in the third, with a screaming grounder by John Rhodes (Soddy Daisy, TN/Kentucky) that nearly hit Mohawk Valley starter Sal Fusco (Albany, NY/UMass Lowell) and rolled all the way to center field. That single would score Noah Cabrera (Rego Park, NY/Towson) all the way from first base and give Rhodes an RBI single.

Owen Wosleger (East Hampton, CT/Mount St. Mary’s) would extend the lead once again on an RBI single that scored CJ Rodriguez (Newport Beach, CA/Vanderbilt) in the fourth. However, Cabrera would strike again in the fifth, this time, on an RBI single from Jared Payne (New Cumberland, PA/Kentucky).

Cabrera and Wosleger would score runs in the eighth, although Wosleger’s would come in more exciting fashion. Wosleger would hit a slight tapper that would score Jacob Josey (Ellenton, FL/Florida Atlantic), but it would take a fundamental mistake from the Oneonta first baseman, who would dive and miss Wosleger, allowing Josey to score.

That would be all Mohawk Valley reliever Mike Schwartz (Merrick, NY/Villanova) would need, only allowing two baserunners to put a bow on the Diamond Dawgs’ (21-11) three-game winning streak. Schwartz would earn the save, while Ryan Keenan (Lighthousen Point, FL/Vanderbilt) picked up the win. Rick Burroni (Yorktown Heights, NY/Northwestern) was saddled with the loss for Oneonta (10-21).

The Diamond Dawgs will be back at Veteran’s Memorial Park on Friday for an exhibition match with the Capital City Reds of Canada. The Outlaws will continue a road trip to Shuttleworth Park on Friday for a doubleheader with the Amsterdam Mohawks.
