Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs Willie Shaw pitches a 4-hit complete game shutout to lead Dawgs

 The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs and the Albany Dutchman took to game two of its doubleheader ay Veteran’s Memorial Park for its Perfect Game Collegiate League (PGCBL) contest on Sunday after the DiamondDawgs picked up a 3-2 victory in game one.

The game two starter for Mohawk Valley was Willie Shaw (William & Mary) while Albany sent out Andrew Bannon (Skidmore) and Shaw shutdown the Dutchman for a 4-0 victory and sweeping the doubleheader.

The DiamondDawgs got on the scoreboard first in game two just as the Dutchman did in game one in the first inning when Jordan Serena (Columbia) and Dalton Herrington (ULM) singled and Landon Thibodeaux (LSU Eunice) walked and Casey Rodrigue (Indiana) reached on a fielders choice scoring a run.

The DiamondDawgs exploded for three runs in the bottom of the fourth when Rodrigue singled and moved over on a wild pitch and Craig Lepre (UAlbany) doubled scoring the second run of the game which was followed by two more after Trey Hunt III (Point Loma Nazarene) singled to right and Sam Dexter (Southern Maine) singled for a 4-0 advantage.

Willie Shaw (William & Mary) picked up his first win in his first start and recording a complete game four hit shutout while Albany’s Andrew Bannon (Skidmore) worked only four innings and allowed four runs on seven hits for the loss.

The DiamondDawgs are back at Veterans Memorial Park Tuesday, July 16, 2013 for a 7:05pm contest against the Amsterdam Mohawks.
