Vitacco Named Pitcher of the Week

During each week of the 2019 PGCBL season, the league office will recognize  one pitcher as the League’s Player and Pitcher of the Week. In the second week of the season, a starting pitcher logged a career performance on the mound.

The Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League is pleased to announce the selection of Glens Falls’ Nick  Mohawk Valley’s Vincent Vitacco (Rider) as the PGCBL Pitcher of the Week.

Vitacco was spectacular for the Diamond Dawgs on Saturday, tossing seven nearly unhittable innings. The righthander took a no-hitter into the seventh innings, and allowed just one hit to the Geneva Red Wings while striking out 15. Despite Geneva picking up a 2-1 win, Vitacco’s 15 strikeout performance marked the best performance by a pitcher in that category in the PGCBL since 2018 Pitcher of the Year Mason Hazelwood (Kentucky) struck out 16 last season.

Midway through June, Vitacco leads the PGCBL in strikeouts with 26, and his 2.12 earned run average ranks in the top ten in the league among pitchers with ten or more innings of work. This season at Rider, Vitacco
