Landon Thibodeaux drove in five runs and Logan Carmen gave Mohawk Valley its second consecutive strong start on the mound as the DiamondDawgs defeated Adirondack’s Trail Blazers 6-1 on the road.

The University of Southern Maine’s Carmen, the Little East Conference Pitcher of the Year, threw seven scoreless innings at the Boonville Youth Athletic Association’s Robert Smith Athletic Complex. The left-hander struck out four batters and walked one while allowing four hits, all singles.

Thibodeaux, who helped Louisiana State-Eunice return to the NJCAA’s Division II championship game in the spring, drove home Willie Shaw with a single in the first inning to get the scoring started; the DiamondDawgs had Matt Zanotta thrown out at the plate on the play to end the inning. Thibodeaux drove in another run in the fifth inning with the first of his two doubles; his hit followed another RBI-double by Zanotta and put Mohawk Valley up 3-0.

Mohawk Valley also scored on Thibodeaux’s second double in the seventh inning and his sacrifice fly in the ninth.

Zanotta and Sam Dexter each added two hits to Thibodeaux’s three. Dalton Herrington singled, walked twice, stole his fourth base of the young season and scored three runs.

Dominic Fazio homered against reliever Troy Applin with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning for the only Adirondack run. Fazio’s home run left Mohawk Valley one out short of a second consecutive shutout; the DiamondDawgs’ pitching staff had not allowed a run since the eighth inning of their opening game Wednesday in Glens Falls.

The DiamondDawgs are home Monday for a game against Glens Falls. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
