Evan Wolf (UC Davis) was the starting pitcher for the DiamondDawgs on a hot humid evening. Wolf looked strong through the first three innings giving up two hits one of which was a solo homerun to dead center by Evan Stevens (Wake Forest) in the top of the third inning. However the game began to slowly unravel for Wolf after another run scored in the fourth inning off of a double by Jeff Boehm (Kentucky) and the Mohawks jumping out to a 2-0 lead. Wolf proceeded to load the bases and left the mess for Raymond Morton (Norfolk State) to cleanup. After all was said and done Wolf ended up giving five runs two of which were earned and recorded five strikeouts, hit three batters and threw a wild pitch. Morton went 3.2 innings and gave up three hits with two runs, walked two and struck out two and also hit a batter.
Amsterdam starter Rocky McCord (Auburn) gave up a single to the first batter of the game and never gave up another hit through five innings pitched. He issued no runs, no walks and recorded five strikeouts. The DaimondDawgs bats came alive in the sixth when they put up four runs to make it a 7-4 game. Amsterdam had an opportunity to add to its lead in the eighth but left runners on when Giuseppe Papaccio (Seton Hall) struck out. Scott Heath (Maine) came into the game for the Mohawks and pitched two innings allowing two hits and a walk. Heath silenced the DiamondDawg bats in the eighth when he forced two ground outs and a pop out to end any chance of a rally.
Taylor Wright (Brown) was brought in by head coach Roberto Vaz in the ninth and gave up a double and a single and issued a walk allowing the Mohawks to add the their lead and force the Dawgs to come up with at least four in the bottom half of the ninth.
Chase Williamson (Auburn) took the mound for Amsterdam in the ninth inning and hit Jack Morrow (Young Harris) with a pitch and then followed by striking out the next three batters to end the game securing an 8-4 victory. The Mohawks improved to 8-2 and extended its winning streak to seven games while the DiamondDawgs dropped to 3-7 and continued on a three game slide.
