Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs Bringing Back Championship Coach

Little Falls, NY – The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL) have announced that two-time PGCBL Championship Coach Steve Luby will be returning to the dugout for the 2019 season as an Associate Head Coach.  Coach Luby who served as an assistant coach in both of the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs championship runs in 2015 and 2017 will join second year head coach Cory Haggerty in a quest for a third title.  In his four seasons as an assistant with the DiamondDawgs Coach Luby has compiled a record of 88-56.

DiamondDawg owner Travis Heiser was very excited to make the announcement, “When you are able to add a Coach to your organization that is a two-time PGCBL champion and is so closely tied to the history of this franchise it’s a great day.  Not only am I excited to have Coach Luby back in Little Falls but I know the fans love Coach and even more importantly I know he will do so much to help our players become the best baseball players they can become.  He is the caliber of Coach we love here, hard-working, dedicated, devoted to his players and a baseball guy 24/7/365.”

Coach Luby echoed the enthusiasm regarding his return, “I’m so excited to be back in Little Falls and the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs family.” I look forward to being back with Travis and all the great fans of the DiamondDawgs. Our goal of bringing quality young men, making them better than when they arrived, and competing for a championship is why Travis runs such a classy and top notch organization. I look forward to working alongside Coach Haggerty as I know we both have the same mindset and goals for the year – developing our players to be the best players they can be and competing for another title.”

Coach Luby returns to Little Falls after spending a summer with the Vermont Mountaineers of the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL). He is currently entering his second season as head coach and seventh year overall at Treasure Valley Community College (TVCC) and 31st year overall in baseball. Prior to TVCC, Coach Luby was a high school head coach in Oregon for 20 years and served three years as the infield and hitting coach at Western Baptist College.  Luby was named Oregon State Baseball Coach of the year in 1991, named Conference Coach of the Year five times and won a State Championship.

As a player, Coach Luby was an All-State athlete in football and baseball at Marist High School in Eugene, Oregon and played infield for Oregon State University and later transferred to Western Oregon State College where he was an All-Conference infielder.

Coach has two children: a son Tyler (26) and a daughter Danielle (23)

The 2018 Central Division Champions Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs kick off the 2019 season in June at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Little Falls, New York.  We hope to see you there!
