Mohawk Valley defeats Saugerties 3-0 in rain-shortened game

06/26/2017 8:39 PMLITTLE FALLS, NY – The rain did it again to the Saugerties Stallions and the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs. This time, it fell in Mohawk Valley’s favor, as they scored three runs before the umpires called the game, resulting in the DiamondDawgs 3-0 victory in a six-inning, rain-shortened game.

Both starters, Mohawk Valley’s Crandall Poore (Gray, GA/Middle Georgia State) and Jason Antalek (Beacon, NY/Iona) pitched admirably to start. Poore allowed just two walks in his first two innings of work. Meanwhile, Antalek pitched a perfect allowed back to back doubles to Austin Pollack (Harrison, NY/Hofstra) and Clay Koniencki (Schwenksville, PA/Monmouth), the latter scoring the former. Later on in the second, Koniencki would score on a flare to center field by Joe Engel (Downers Grove, IL/Columbia). Zack Coker (Tuscaloosa, AL/Alabama) would score the third run of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Ben Porter (Newton, MA/Columbia).

The Stallions would finally get to Poore in the fourth on a comebacker by Patrick LaGravinese (St. James, NY/Albany). However, LaGravinese would be gunned down in a combined effort by Koniencki and Alexis Monge-Rodriguez (Pembroke Pines, FL/Barry) to get the third out and keep Saugerties scoreless.

The weather became a factor in the top of the sixth inning, as the game was delayed due to lightning in the area. After about a 30-minute delay, the game was called due to the weather and unplayable field conditions.

Poore would pick up the win for Mohawk Valley (12-6), extending the DiamondDawgs’ win streak to four. Antalek would pick up the loss for Saugerties (10-9).

The DiamondDawgs will head out on an almost-600-mile road trip starting tomorrow, as they head to East Field for a game with the Glens Falls Dragons. The Stallions will continue their trip west, as they head to Onondaga Community College to face the Onondaga Flames.
