JANUARY 7, 2017

Little Falls, New York – The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs are pleased to announce that pitcher Zach Vennaro has been resigned for the 2017 season and will be returning for his third season at Veteran’s Memorial Park.

Since joining the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs in 2015 Vennaro helped the Dawgs capture its first Perfect Game Collegiate League (PGCBL) championship and was named an all-star. In 2016 Vennaro recorded nine saves in 24.1 innings pitched, striking out 30 batters, allowing only 21 hits and seven runs while posting a 1.47 ERA. Also, in 2016 Vennaro was listed as one of the top professional prospects in the league. In his first season in 2015 with the Dawgs Vennaro recorded a 3.26 ERA finishing 3-1 in 27.2 innings pitched and striking out 31 batters while tallying seven saves.

In 2016, Vennaro also helped his collegiate team, the Monroe Community College Tribunes to the NJCAA Division II World Series, was named to the 2016 Division II Baseball All-Region Team and was honored as the Monroe Community College Male Athlete of the Year.

“Bringing back Zach was one of my top priorities for 2017”, said DiamondDawgs owner and president Travis Heiser, “not only does Zach bring stability to our rotation but he is a leader and a great teammate. As one of the veterans of this team he embodies what we look for in players who wear the DiamondDawgs jersey and his hard work and dedication will be a great example for our newer guys. Everyone who follows the PGCBL or any level of baseball knows that pitching is a key component to being successful, when you have the opportunity to re-sign a player of Zach’s caliber, you do it.”

“I am really excited and looking forward to being back”, said Vennaro. “The ownership and coaching staff here is great. I have learned so much from my time here during the summer with our coaches and its makes me a better player being around these guys. The fans here in the Mohawk Valley are fantastic and make playing here so much fun and I look forward to seeing a lot of familiar faces again in the stands this summer. Ownership brings in great kids and talented ballplayers every year and we work well together and make each other better and bond so well during the summer months that we truly are a team. I look forward to suiting up again this summer and bringing the best fans in the league another title!”
