Klock and Sibley Named PGCBL Player of the Week

During each week of the 2019 PGCBL season, the league office will recognize one position player and one pitcher as the League’s Player and Pitcher of the Week. In the first ten days of the season, two members of the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs posted standout performances, allowing the Diamond Dawgs to sweep the first weekly awards of the 2019 season

The Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League is pleased to announce the selection of Mohawk Valley’s Dylan Klock (St. Thomas Aquinas) as the PGCBL Player of the Week, and teammate Hunter Sibley (Iona) as the PGCBL Pitcher of the Week.

Mohawk Valley’s last Player and Pitcher of the Week came in the fifth week of the 2018 season, when the Diamond Dawgs also swept the weekly awards. During that week, Austin Pollack (Manhattanville) was named the Player of the Week and Sam Turcotte (Stony Brook) picked up the Pitcher of the Week honors as Mohawk Valley went on to win the Cental Division championship.

Klock enters the second week of the PGCBL season on a seven-game hitting streak, having hit safely in each of his appearances thus far this season. The Saint Johnsville, New York native currently leads the PGCBL with a .455 batting average, and ranks in the top five in the league with a .586 on base percentage. Three of Klock’s ten hits have gone for extra bases, including a key three-run home run in Mohawk Valley’s victory over Adirondack on Thursday. The St. Thomas Aquinas product has scored a run in all but one appearance, and has recorded three multi-hit performances.

A transfer from Herkimer, Klock finished his first season this spring at St. Thomas Aquinas. The outfielder played in 35 of STAC’s 46 games, recording 15 hits and 14 runs scored. Klock also added 12 runs batted in, and belted a home run as part of a three-hit performance against Southern New Hampshire on February 24.

Sibley pitched three times in the first ten days of the season for Mohawk Valley, and dominated in each of his three outings. The righthander started on Opening Night for the Dawgs, and tossed six shutout innings in a 9-1 victory over the Newark Pilots. Mohawk Valley would then use the Millville, New Jersey native out of the bullpen. Sibley threw two scoreless innings with the game tied against Amsterdam on Friday, and added a 1-2-3 inning against the Watertown Rapids on Sunday. Mohawk Valley is 3-0 in games where Sibley appears on the mound.

In his first season at Iona, Sibley was one of the Gaels’ most-utilized pitchers. He appeared in 16 games and made eight starts as a freshman, recording 57.1 innings of work. In that time, Sibley recorded 54 strikeouts, and held opposing hitters to a .223 batting average while posting a 4.55 earned run average.

The PGCBL is pleased to recognize the accomplishments of Klock and Sibley over the last ten days. The league will continue to honor the best performances in the PGCBL throughout the summer with both nightly and weekly awards.
