The DiamondDawgs and Newark Pilots were tied at 1 after four innings Saturday, and Mohawk Valley outscored the Pilots 6-5 in the fifth. The DiamondDawgs added two runs in the sixth inning and rallied behind Niagara University’s Alex MacKinnon who pitched 3 1/3 innings of relief, allowing one run on two hits. The DiamondDawgs won 9-7 Saturday in Newark to even their record.
Villanova University’s Ryan Toohers homered, singled and drove in four runs for the visitors, and the DiamondDawgs also got two hits and two runs from Hernandez, and two RBI from Le Moyne College’s Drew Fureno.
The DiamondDawgs played in Boonville Sunday against the Adirondack Trail Blazers and head back there Tuesday after a day off on their schedule.
