Crispino Drives in Six, DiamondDawgs Slam Adirondack, 15-4

By: Team Press Release

LITTLE FALLS, NY—It’s been a rough season for the Adirondack Trail Blazers, as they have had to fight back from double-digit deficits numerous times this season.

Thursday night at Veteran’s Memorial Park was no different, and they had to do it again with a team that’s getting hot at the right time: The Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs.

Mac Crispino (Avon, CT/Fairfield University) and Tanner Leeknecht (Billings, MT/Treasure Valley CC) combined for ten runs batted in on the night, as the Diamond Dawgs decimated the Adirondack Trail Blazers, 15-4.

Drew Arciuolo (Milford, CT/Fairfield University) would kick off the scoring for the Diamond Dawgs, as errors by Trail Blazers starting pitcher Mitchell Boyer (Batavia, Illinois/Creighton University) and center fielder Kenny Collins (Weston, CT/Hamilton College) would allow Arciuolo to trot home. Crispino would follow him home after a ground out by Michael Ketchmark (Dallas, TX/Dartmouth College).

Arciuolo would add another run in the second inning, as his sacrifice fly to left field would score Andrew Turner (King of Prussia, PA/Long Island University-Brooklyn). Crispino would add another three of his own, as his three-RBI double trickled all the way to the wall in right field. His hit would score Kevin Radziewicz (Cromwell, CT/Fairfield University), Tanner Wessling (Kent, WA/University of Tennessee-Martin), and Michael Conti (Glastonbury, CT/Fairfield University).

Sean Mazzio would put his mark on the game as well, as his RBI triple in the third would score Mike Martinez (West New York, NJ/Rutgers University).

Crispino would extend his number of RBIs on the night to four, as his sacrifice fly to left field in the fourth would score Arciuolo.

Conti would add an RBI to his name as well in the fifth, as his RBI single would score Sean Mazzio (West Chester, PA/Wagner College). Crispino would add RBIs number five and six soon after, as he would rocket a ball to the right-center field wall to score Radziewicz and Conti.

Adirondack would finally get on the board in the top of the seventh, as Brett Simon’s (Laurel, MD/LaSalle University) two-RBI double would score Matt Hosman (Peabody, MA/University of Massachusetts) and Chuck Hooker (Warrington, PA/Alderson Broaddus University).

With his father sitting in the stands, Leeknecht would make his presence known in the seventh with a grand slam over the left field wall that would score Garrett Kelly (Hollister, CA/UC Davis), Martinez, Radziewicz, and himself.

That would be all reliever Jon Sell (Burnt Hills, NY/Herkimer CC) would need, as he would put the Trail Blazers down in order in the top of the ninth to end the game.

Jonathan McKinney (Marietta, GA/Georgia College) would pick up the win for the Diamond Dawgs (16-13), while Boyer would pick up the loss for Adirondack (7-24).

The two teams will meet again on Friday, this time in the opposite venue: the Robert Smith Sports Complex in Boonville.
