July 2 – Dawgs defeat Stallions 14-1! Toohers and Turcotte named PGCBL Players of Night!!

Throughout the season, the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League will be recognizing a Player and Pitcher of the Night on each game day.

Player of the Night: Ryan Toohers, Mohawk Valley (Villanova)

Toohers helped power the Mohawk Valley offense to a 14-1 drubbing of the Saugerties Stallions at Cantine Field on Monday night. The Villanova Wildcat belted two home runs in the victory, hitting a solo shot in the second inning and a two-run bomb in the fifth. He added his other two RBIs on a double in the third inning and a walk in the ninth. At night’s end, Toohers was 3-for-5 with five runs batted in and three runs scored. Toohers has been one of the hottest players in the PGCBL as of late, recording two or more hits in four consecutive games. The infielder has reached base in 15 consecutive games for the DiamondDawgs, and is on a six game hit streak.

Pitcher of the Night: Sam Turcotte, Mohawk Valley (Stony Brook)

While the Mohawk Valley offense was busy scoring 14 runs on the Saugerties Stallions, Sam Turcotte shut down the Saugerties offense over his 5.2 innings of work. The Stony Brook righthander allowed just one walk and two hits, and struck out seven Stallion hitters as he picked up his first victory of the season. Turcotte worked into the sixth inning, and only allowed three base runners. Over his past three starts, the Toronto native has allowed just one earned run over 13 innings, and has struck out 18 opposing hitters. On the season, Turcotte has 24 strikeouts in 17 innings, and holds a 3.70 ERA.
