Herrington and Dye Win PGCBL Weekly Awards

The Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League is pleased to announce the winners of the PGCBL Player and Pitcher of the Week awards for the period of July 8 through July 14.

Both weekly awards were claimed by the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs. Mohawk Valley center fielder Dalton Herrington (ULM) was chosen as the PGCBL Player of the Week. Starting pitcher Jared Dye (ULM) of the DiamondDawgs struck out the rest of the competition on his way to being chosen as the PGCBL Pitcher of the Week.

Herrington and Dye, collegiate teammates at the University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM) and formerly at Louisiana State University Eunice, helped lead Mohawk Valley to a 4-2 showing last week.

Dalton Herrington played and started all six games for the DiamondDawgs. He batted .524 (11-for-21) with five runs scored, three doubles, three RBI and two stolen bases. Herrington amassed 14 total bases, a .645 slugging percentage and a .545 on-base percentage. The number-three batter in Mohawk Valley’s line-up posted four multi-hit performances. He had at least one hit in all six games and scored a run in four of the six. Herrington currently has a nine-game hitting streak and he leads the league with 26 stolen bases.

The Homer, La., native doubled three times in back-to-back games to start the week against the nationally-ranked Glens Falls Golden Eagles. Coming off a five-RBI performance on July 6, Herrington doubled and scored one run in a rain-shortened loss to the Golden Eagles on July 9. He had one of Mohawk Valley’s four hits in the game. Two days later, Dalton doubled twice and scored once in a 5-1 setback at Glens Falls. Herrington’s best performance of the week came in an 8-1 victory over Cooperstown on July 12. He went 3-for-4 with two RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases. His two-RBI single in the first inning gave Mohawk Valley a lead it would not relinquish. The former NJCAA Division II All-American logged his third multi-hit game of the week on Saturday night in a 6-3 win at Elmira. Sunday, he totaled three hits and scored one run in a twin bill sweep of Albany.

Jared Dye was the starting pitcher for Mohawk Valley on Sunday evening in the first game of a doubleheader against red-hot Albany. The Dutchmen rolled into Little Falls with a six-game winning streak. Dye halted the Albany’s winning ways with a 13-strikeout performance in a seven-inning complete game victory. He allowed two runs, one earned, on six hits and walked one in a 3-2 triumph over the Dutchmen. Dye tied a league single-game season high for strikeouts. The Calhoun, La., native struck out at least one batter per inning and recorded multiple strikeouts in five of his seven frames. He ended four separate innings with a strikeout. Dye retired eight Albany batters in a row between the second and fifth frames; that was part of a stretch where he sat down 11 of 12 Dutchmen.  Mohawk Valley carried a 3-1 lead into the seventh inning. Albany took advantage of a two-out error to cut Mohawk Valley’s lead to one. With the potential tying run on base, Dye remained on the mound and quashed the rally with his 13th strikeout to end the game.
