SEATTLE, WA – Baltimore Orioles pitcher made history, Wednesday, becoming the first alumni of the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs to pitch a no-hitter in the major leagues.
Means kept zeroes across the board in the O’s 6-0 win over the Seattle Mariners, striking out 12 batters on 113 pitches.
His gem is the first no-hitter in Baltimore franchise history since 1991, when four pitchers combined for the feat, but the first individual no-hitter since Jim Palmer did it in 1969.
The only baserunner for the Mariners was the result of a dropped ball on a third strike allowing the runner reach.
The all-star lefty spent the summer of 2012 pitching with the DiamondDawgs in Little Falls, while attending Fort Scott Community College.
He went 3-2 with a 1.26 ERA in seven starts and one relief appearance for Mohawk Valley, and was leading the PGCBL in strikeouts with 49 while holding opponents to a .186 batting average before being shut down for the summer.
Means was a 2019 American League All-Star selection, and is 4-0 with a 1.37 ERA in seven starts for Baltimore this season.
