LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. — The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs played long ball Wednesday night and defeated the Adirondack Trail Blazers 9-3 at Veterans Memorial Park.
Four DiamondDawgs hit home runs, including Trey Stover leading off the first inning and Zach Collett and Gus Craig back-to-back in the seventh. Mohawk Valley, which homered three times in Sunday’s 17-3 win over the Trail Blazers in Boonville, had never before hit four in one game in four years of Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League play.
Right-hander Michael DeCarlo wiggled out of a jam in the first inning and held Adirondack to one run through six. Herkimer County Community College teammate Lucas Godlewski pitched a scoreless seventh and Anthony Pastrana got the final six outs.
The Trail Blazers loaded the bases with two hits and a walk before DeCarlo had recorded an out. Mike Carter when Alex Tuccio flew out to right but a pair of strikeouts left the other two runners stranded.
Adirondack got a runner to third with two outs in the second inning and threatened again in the fifth. DeCarlo walked Alex Voitik with one out and Justin Korenblatt doubled. The runners were again left on base when Alex Lushkevitch flew out and Tuccio struck out.
Stover tied the game with his second home run of the season and the DiamondDawgs took the lead in the third inning when Colin Hawk’s two-out single was followed by a Collett double.
Fazio’s two-run home run made it a 4-1 game in the fourth inning and Craig followed a hit by Collett with a triple to drive home another run in the fifth.
Collett hit a three-run home run off reliever Jesse Whitmeyer in the seventh inning and Craig followed with a home run into the football bleachers in center for a 9-1 lead.
The DiamondDawgs play on the road Thursday in Newark and have home games Friday against Glens Falls and Saturday against Newark. Saturday’s game will be followed by a fireworks show rescheduled from July 3.
