DiamondDawgs defeat Utica in 10 innings

The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs scored three runs in the top of the 10th inning then held on to defeat the Utica Brewers 7-5 in their first meeting with the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League newcomers at Murnane Field Wednesday.

The 10 innings warmed the teams up for Thursday when they are scheduled for 14 more in a 5:05 p.m. doubleheader in Little Falls.

Craig Lepre entered the game defensively in the bottom of the ninth inning and delivered the tie-breaking hit in nthe 10th, a two-run single with the bases loaded and one out. The DiamondDawgs added a run when Joey Tracy grounded out.

The Brewers, who came back from a 4-0 deficit to send the game to extra innings, scored on an error in the bottom of the 10th and got the tying run to the plate with one out.

Tyler Bray struck out six batters over three innings and earned the win in relief for Mohawk Valley.

PGCBL RBI-leader Michael Pierson homered and drove in three runs for Utica.
