DiamondDawg Melioris Heading to Los Angeles Angels

By MIKE LEVIN – WKTV Sports

He had hoped to be drafted by the Cubs after working out for them in May, but was still excited when he got the call from the Angels over the weekend. “I know I’m going to be the first one at the ballpark every day and the last one to leave. I’m definitely make the right impression when I get out there. I’m willing to go out there and bust it out. I’m not go let this opportunity get by me. They don’t come ever and I mean its been a dream of mine my whole life i’m just going to go with it and live it up as much as I can.”

Part of Joe’s baseball dream has already come true, but it won’t be easy.  His first assignment is with the Angels affiliate in the Arizona League, based out of Tempe.

It was a tough decision, because Melioris was already playing for the DiamondDawgs.  But ultimately the opportunity was too good to pass up.  Dawgs head coach Troy Gerlach agreed and sees a bright future ahead of his pitcher.  “Joe’s got everything you’re looking for in a pitcher, 6’10”, he’s got long arms, big hands, got some arm speed. He’s got some things to clean up a little bit, but I think he’s a kid that if things work out the way they should for him, he’s going to be pitching in the big leagues for a long time, with his stuff.”

In the meantime, Melioris’s family, friends and supporters will be checking out the AZL Angels’ website, to see how he’s progressing this summer.
