DiamondDawg Long Named Pitcher of the Week

By Little Falls Times:

Mohawk Valley DiamondDawg Keegan Long has been chooses PGCBL Pitcher of the Week award for June 17-23.

Long combined with Tyler Bray on a one-hit shutout as Mohawk Valley defeated Utica 2-0 to earn a split of the teams’ doubleheader at Veterans Memorial Park.

Long, a right-hander who made one start as a freshman at St. Joseph’s College of Indiana, matched Brothers pitch-for-pitch to earn his first PGCBL victory. He struck out nine batters, walked three and hit two as Utica stranded seven runners through Long’s six innings of work. The Brewers’ — and the game’s — only hit was an infield single by Pierson who beat a throw from charging second baseman Casey Rodrigue in the first inning.

The Brewers got runners to second and third with one out in the fifth inning. Long struck Smith out then walked Pierson to load the bases before Jay Gonzalez grounded into a force play to end the inning.

Bray struck out the side in the seventh inning to save the win for Long.

Long has two starts among his four appearances for the DiamondDawgs. He has struck out 15 batters while allowing four earned runs on 11 hits and six walks in 13 innings.
