Coach Luby Returns for another season!

Little Falls, NY – The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL) have announced that two-time PGCBL Championship Coach Steve Luby will be returning for the 2020 season serving as Associate Head Coach. Coach Luby has been a staple of the Dawgs success serving as an assistant coach in both of the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs championship runs in 2015 and 2017. In his five seasons with the DiamondDawgs Coach Luby has compiled a record of 117-73.

“We are very fortunate and pleased to be able to bring Coach Luby back for another season” said Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs Owner/President Travis Heiser.  “Coach has been such an important part of this organization and he brings so much baseball experience and knowledge with him that he is able to share with our players.  Coach Luby has worked very closely with myself and Head Coach Haggerty on building the roster for 2020 and we are all very excited with the team we have assembled for this season.”

“I am so excited and blessed to be returning to Little Falls and the DiamondDawgs. Being able to work for Travis and the phenomenal organization he runs, being able to coach with Cory (Haggerty), and going to Vets field and our great fans everyday is truly special to me. I am excited to get back and help our players develop and grow and complete for a 3rd PGCBL Championship. Coming back for my fifth year, I have developed come close friends and ties and consider the my East coast home. Once a Dawg always a Dawg – I can;t wait for June!”

Coach Luby brings a tremendous baseball resume with him to Little Falls entering into his 32nd season overall in baseball.  Coach Luby is currently the infield and hitting coach at the College of Idaho in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). In addition to his time spent with the DiamondDawgs, Coach Luby spent a summer in the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) with the Vermont Mountaineers. He also spent seven seasons, two as the head coach,  at Treasure Valley Community College (TVCC). Prior to TVCC, Coach Luby was a high school head coach in Oregon for 20 years and served three years as the infield and hitting coach at Western Baptist College. Luby was named Oregon State Baseball Coach of the year in 1991, named Conference Coach of the Year five times and won a State Championship.

As a player, Coach Luby was an All-State athlete in football and baseball at Marist High School in Eugene, Oregon and played infield for Oregon State University and later transferred to Western Oregon State College where he was an All-Conference infielder.

Coach has two children: a son Tyler and a daughter Danielle.

The 2015 and 2017 PGCBL Champions Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs play at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Little Falls, New York and have had several players reach the MLB level including MLB World Series Champion (Houston Astros) James Hoyt and 2019 Baltimore Orioles All-star pitcher and American League Rookie of the Year finalist John Means.

 

The DiamondDawgs will kick-off their quest for another PGCBL title in June 2020. We look forward to seeing the Dawgs faithful at the Dawg pound this summer.
