Chris Cruz Smashes Team Leading 9th HR

ITHACA, N.Y. – Sophmore Chris Cruz (DiamondDawgs 2012) hit a monster two-run home run in the sixth inning and made an incredible diving catch in the seventh, but the baseball team couldn’t hold on to the lead and Binghamton scratched out a 6-4 victory on Wednesday at Hoy Field. The loss ended the Big Red’s four-game winning streak.

Cruz crushed his ninth home run of the season down the right-field line. The blast ballooned in the wind, which was blowing hard toward left, but still had plenty of distance to clear the fence. Cruz has now tripled his home run production from last season and is tied for third in program history for home runs in a season (the record is 11) and is currently hitting .306 and has started every game for the “Big Red’.

The Herkimer sophomore struck out a career-high 12 Gabay and only allowed a single earned run in the second inning.

The Herkimer County Comm. College Generals swept the holiday weekend doubleheader with Adirondack and have, as of this writing, won 16-straight games. Herkimer has not been defeated since Mar. 15. The Generals have outscored their opponents 110-19 in the month of April.

Former Red Sox Intern Hired as New Assistant GM/Director of Groups for DiamondDawgs

The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs announced today the hiring of Little Falls native Katie Robarge as the club’s Assistant General Manager and Director of Groups.

A native of Little Falls, Robarge joins the DiamondDawgs following a successful internship last summer with the Salem Red Sox, the Class A Advanced Affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. She currently lives in Salem, Virginia and works at Virginia Tech University as a concession supervisor.

“I would like to thank Travis Heiser and Dave Dittmann for the opportunity to work for my hometown team; and I am looking forward to expanding the positive influence that baseball has had and will continue to have on my community.” Robarge said.

“From the first time Katie and I spoke, she displayed a passion for the game of baseball and her hometown,” DiamondDawgs President Travis Heiser said. “With her past experience in minor league baseball she understands how much work it takes to run a successful operation, there is no question that she will help us continue to grow as an organization”.
