LISANTI NAMED PRIMETIME PERFORMER BY COLLEGE BASEBALL 360
(Courtsey of www.bryantbulldogs.com)
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – After putting together his most successful appearance of the season last Friday against Monmouth, junior Salvatore Lisanti (Bronx, N.Y. 2012 DiamondDawg) was recognized as a Primetime Performer by College Baseball 360 on Tuesday.
The Primetime Performer awards program seeks to recognize players based on more than simple raw stats, instead taking into account quality of opponent, contribution to team success and various situational factors (such as clutch play, all-around performance, leadership, adversity overcome, etc.).
The first Bulldog to be ever recognized by CB360, Lisanti registered his most impressive outing of the year in the most crucial game of the season to date. After the Black and Gold tied the game at 5-5 in the top of the ninth, Lisanti was summoned in the bottom of the ninth to keep the game tied. Lisanti did his job for four innings and eventually earned his second win of the season when the Bulldogs scored in the top of the 12th inning. The right-hander allowed just one hit and walked one in the longest outing of his season, working out of jams in both the 10th and 11th innings.
On the season, Lisanti has appeared in a league-high 23 games, tossing 32 1/3 innings. He has posted a 2-3 record with seven saves and posted a 1.67 ERA. Lisanti has not allowed a run over his last five appearances (eight innings) and hasn’t allowed an earned run in his last 10 outings spanning 15 1/3 innings.
Cruz’s 11th-Inning Home Run Leads Baseball to Ivy Title
ITHACA, N.Y. (Courtesy of Cornell University)
Understandably, it may have been the fastest home run trot you’ll ever see.
“I couldn’t trot that one out,” Chris Cruz said. “It was just way too exciting.”
The sophomore slugger bashed a program-record 12th homer of the season on Sunday. But more importantly, the two-run blast came in the bottom of the 11th inning to lead the Big Red baseball team to a 3-1 victory over Dartmouth in the winner-take-all Game 3 of the Ivy League Championship Series. It’s the first time Cornell has won the title since the league added baseball 20 years ago, while the Big Red’s last championship team won the EIBL title in 1977.

Parents As Reading Partners is a “Home Run for Everyone” as The Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs Inspire Readers!!
Ilion, N.Y ~ Who would have thought that the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs Baseball Team would inspire a whole community to read, read, read!!!!!!! Well that is exactly the case this year as the Barringer Road Elementary collaborated with the Diamond Dawgs to fuel the excitement of an “Opening Day” atmosphere at this year’s PARP celebration. Parents as Reading Partners, otherwise known as ‘PARP,’ had a good old fashioned baseball theme this year. “Inspiration is the key to finding that special passion for reading and encouraging our students to read,” says Kathleen Deck, one of the PARP coordinators. “What better way to inspire both parents and students than to involve local up and coming individuals who excel at sports and community service.”
CRUZ CONTROL
2012 DiamondDawg and Cornell University outfielder Chris Cruz started his season off with a bang against Maryland-Eastern Shore, smashing two home runs in Saturday’s first game en route to a 15-4 victory, then he added two more roundtrippers the following weekend at George Washington. Now up to 11 home runs in 39 games.
Cruz is just the third Cornellian to reach double-digits in home runs in a season. He has tied the program record, originally set by Eric Kirby in 1995 and matched in 2002 by Erik Rico.
Cruz’s 11 home runs leads the Ivy League and is just five off the national lead, shared by Eastern Tennessee’s Matthew Scruggs and Samford’s Brandon Miller.
2012 Dawg Jack Morrow Hits 11th HR of the season
2012 DiamondDawg Jack Morrow hit two homers to bring his season total to 11 and drove in a college-record eight runs on Saturday to led Young Harris College to victory. Morrow is currently batting .350 with 51 RBI’s while starting in 43 games.
Willie Gabay pitches two-hit shutout while striking out 13
HCCC’s and 2012 DiamondDawgs Willie Gabay was the big story in Game One Sunday. Gabay, a sophomore and an MLB draft prospect, was in good form and had his fastball working. He was clocked at 92 mph by a Toronto Blue Jays scout who was present. Gabay pitched all seven innings and did not allow a hit until the sixth.
Gabay allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out 13 Hawk hitters. MVCC broke up the no-hitter with a hit up the middle to lead off the sixth inning.
