The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs today announced that Utica College Pioneers Baseball Coach Andrew “Andy” Weimer will join former Major Leaguer Charles “Boots” Day as an inductee for the 4th Annual Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs Hall of Fame. The ceremonies will take place at the Annual Hot Stove Dinner to be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012. Former Major Leaguer Tommy John will be the keynote speaker at the dinner.
“We are pleased to announce Andy’s Induction into the Hall of Fame,” said DiamondDawgs President & General Manager Travis Heiser. “Andy had a solid Minor League career and currently is putting the experience he gained, ironically some of it while Tommy John was his manager, to tremendous use through his coaching at UC.”
Weimer parlayed an outstanding All-America career at LeMoyneCollegewhere he led the Dolphins in career appearances with 85 and was second in career E.R.A. 2.13 and Saves 22, into a 15th round draft selection by the American League Tampa Bay Devil Rays. In his seven-year professional career, Weimer saw action with the NY-PENN League’s Hudson Valley Renegades, the South Atlantic League’s Charleston RiverDogs, the Midwest League’s Dayton Dragons, the Can-Am League’s New Haven County Cutters and Nashua Pride, and the Atlantic League’s Bridgeport Bluefish where he played for Tommy John. He pitched in 262 Games, had 18 Wins, posted a 3.72 E.R.A., and an notched an astounding 63 Saves with a strikeout-per-inning ratio a solid 5.6. Other highlights in his terrific career include being the closer for the 2001 NYCBL Champion Rome Indians, posting an E.R.A. of 0.95 in 2003 at LeMoyne, and graduating as the career program leader and single season program leader in appearances, saves, and E.R.A. Weimer, an All-Star in the Atlantic League in 2009, is in his third year as Head Coach of the Utica College Pioneers Baseball team where set a record for conference wins in 2011.
Wiemer is married to the former Laura Candella, has an infant daughter names Iliana, and works as a Financial Representative with Northwestern Mutual Insurance.
