Haggerty returning in 2019 to lead the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs

Little Falls, NY – The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL) have announced that Cory Haggerty is returning for his second season as head coach for the 2019 season. In his first season in Little Falls, Haggerty led the DiamondDawgs to a Central Division title and a 26-19 regular season record earning a spot in the PGCBL playoffs.

“We are very happy and fortunate to be able to bring Coach Haggerty back for a second season as the head coach of the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs”, said Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs owner Travis Heiser. “Coach Haggerty’s work ethic, eye for the game and positive attitude is exactly what we strive for in this organization. We work very hard to make sure the very best baseball players and coaches are in a Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs jersey and we have just that with Coach Haggerty. Coach Haggerty and I have been working very hard in the offseason on our roster for 2019 and we are excited and looking forward to what the summer brings and fans can be assured we will be competing for another title in 2019. Coach Haggerty wont be the only familiar face to fans in the dugout this year as we are currently finalizing a contract with another well known coach to fans which we hope to announce soon!”

Haggerty brings with him experience both as a player and coach. The former Ilion High School standout was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 18th round of the Major League Baseball (MLB) draft and still ranks in the top 10 in several offensive and defensive categories at Cortland State. Coach Haggerty is currently an assistant coach at Utica College and has also spent time at Hamilton College, Eckerd College and at his alma mater Cortland State. At Hamilton, Haggerty served as both an infield and hitting instructor for the Continentals in a season when they earned the most wins in school history (2017-18). While at Eckerd College, Coach Haggerty assisted with hitters as well as serving as the outfield instructor and saw one of his players, outfielder/infielder Nick Hill get drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 26th round of the MLB draft. From 2010-2013 as an assistant at Cortland State, the Red Dragons participated in four NCAA regional’s and two world series while placing runner-up in 2010. Several players under Coach Haggerty’s helm at Cortland State went on to sign professional baseball contracts and the offense and defense ranked in the top 10 in batting average and fielding percentage during his stint.

“I’m excited to return to Little Falls this summer for another season of DiamondDawgs baseball” said Coach Haggerty. “Travis and I have already been working hard putting together another great team on the field and will be ready to compete for another PGCBL title. We also have some returning players which I am happy to see come back and I’m sure fans will also be happy to see some of those familiar faces which they will be hearing about soon! It should be another fun summer of baseball for our DiamondDawg family.”

The 2015 and 2017 PGCBL Champions Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs play at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Little Falls, New York and kick-off the 2019 season in June. We hope to see you there!
