RICHMOND, Va. – Freshman righty Joey Silan tossed a career-long 8.0 innings in Saturday’s series-clinching win over UNCW and has earned recognition from the Colonial Athletic Association Monday afternoon with the conference’s Co-Rookie of the Week award.
In his Saturday outing, Silan struck out eight Seahawk batters and held the opposition scoreless for seven of his eight innings. He stuck out the side in the fifth inning and picked up a strikeout to end his outing.
The Newark, Delaware native surrendered just four hits and allowed his two runs in the third inning to pick up his second win of the season.
His efforts on the bump helped the Blue Hens earn their first series win at UNCW since 2011 and aided in Delaware’s CAA Tournament push with two conference weekend’s remaining.
