2013 Dawg Sam Dexter Named Rookie of the Year

Sam Dexter, who becomes the sixth Husky to be selected as the conference’s top rookie, put together one of the finest rookie seasons in the history of the Southern Maine baseball program.  The freshman shortstop is batting .352 (64-for-182) with a team and conference-best 21 doubles, two triples, two home runs, and 29 RBI.  Dexter is also second on the team in walks (15), and fourth in stolen bases (13).  He ranks fourth in the LEC in hits, runs scored (43), total bases (93), seventh in stolen bases, and ninth in batting average, slugging percentage (.522) and on-base percentage (.420).  A starter in all 44 games, Dexter, who also earned a spot on the LEC first team, posted 157 assists and turned 37 doubles play.  He currently has a .938 fielding percentage.
