Fun

The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs are proud to announce that Frankfort native Rob Raux will be one of the inductees into the Mohawk Valley Baseball Dawgs Hall of Fame on April,18th.

“A masher.” So said sports reporter Jon Rathbun of The Little Falls Times when discussing the career and hitting prowess of 2015 Mohawk Valley Baseball Hall of Fame inductee Rob Raux. Other words that could be used to describe his athleticism at the plate could include “prolific,” “consistent,” and “gifted.”

A Frankfort native, Raux’s high school career was loaded with accomplishment. His lifetime career statistics over a four-year varsity career include a batting average of .531, 135 hits, 29 doubles, 21 triples and a slugging percentage of .929. Added to those amazing offensive numbers were 10 home runs and 106 runs batted in. He scored 99 runs and only struck out 25 times in over 250 at bats in four years. Over 82 games, Ilion’s record was 60-36 with Raux in the lineup.

During his junior year, Raux played a memorable game at Veterans Memorial Park in Little Falls where he came to the plate three times in the first inning and hit home runs out of the park in every at bat. Additionally, Raux’s 100th career hit was a home run in the New York State Public High School Semi-Finals. In his senior year, Raux made the All-Tournament Team at the National Classic in Los Angeles, CA. In the National Classic, he went 11 for 14 at the plate with a home run, a triple, and four doubles. In the Section III tournament that year, he went 6 for 7 with a home run and two triples. For his career, Raux was an All-League player at three different positions – First Base, Catcher, and Shortstop.

From 2005-2008, Raux played baseball for the Ithaca College Bombers. During his four-year career at Ithaca, the Bombers won the Empire 8 Conference Championship each year.

In 2005, Raux had one of the best debut seasons ever by a Bomber, becoming Ithaca’s first freshman All-American. He was named Empire 8 Rookie of the Year and was the first freshman named the New York Region Player of the Year. Raux’s team-best 52 Runs Batted In set a Bomber freshman record and were the program’s fifth-highest single-season total. He ranked second on the team in hits (with Ithaca’s 10th-best single-season mark), slugging percentage, stolen bases and home runs, and his team-best 17 doubles were one short of the school record. A three-time Empire 8 Player of the Week, he recorded 20 multi-hit games.

In 2006, Raux earned all-conference and all-region accolades for the second year in a row, landing on the Empire 8 first team and the New York region second team. He batted .400 and led the Bombers with 56 hits, 45 Runs Batted In, 44 runs and five triples. He was second on the team in slugging percentage (.593), on-base percentage (.485), stolen bases (10) and doubles (11). Raux was named to the all-region team at the NCAA regionals after batting .353 with a pair of doubles. He earned his fourth career Empire 8 Player of the Week after going 12-for-21 with seven runs, eight RBI’s and a .714 slugging percentage in six games. Raux recorded nine three-hit games and a four-hit performance (with three RBI) in a win over St. John Fisher.

In 2007, Raux made his third straight appearance on the Empire 8 all-star team and was an all-tournament pick at the NCAA regionals for the third straight year. He led the team in home runs, triples, Runs Batted In, walks and slugging percentage and moved into Ithaca’s top 20 in RBI (fifth), average (seventh), hits (14th) and runs (15th). Raux was named Empire 8 Player of the Week after an eight-for-14 performance in four games including a sweep at #20 Brockport. Among his three three-hit games was a three-for-six in the NCAA playoff win over St. John Fisher. Raux homered three times in his last eight games.

In 2008, Raux started all 42 games the Bombers played in. He batted an astonishing .380 with 54 hits in 142 official at bats. He scored 44 runs, poked 13 doubles and one triple, launched 7 home runs and drove in 32 runners. With his 16 walks and 4 hit by pitches, Raux was on base over 50% of the time he played. He also had an astounding .634 slugging percentage for the season. He was named a First Team member of the 2008 ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Team.
