Mohawk Valley Tops Utica 6-2 (July 3rd)

UTICA, N.Y. – The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs now have a 3-0 lead between against their rivals, the Utica Blue Sox, after taking down the Blue Sox 6-2 at Donovan Stadium on Monday night.

The Blue Sox grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the second inning, but it was all ‘Dawgs from there, as they outscored Utica 6-1 the rest of the way. The DiamondDawgs added two in the third, one in the fourth, and three in the sixth. Utica, however, out-hit Mohawk Valley 11-to-7 but left 10 runners on base, many of them in scoring position. Russ Olive (UMass Lowell) led the way for the DiamondDawgs, going 2-for-5 with a double and four RBIs.

Jonathan McKinney (Southern Union State CC) got the win for Mohawk Valley, going six innings and allowing two runs on seven hits and one walk. Garret Keough (Holy Cross) was hooked with the loss after going four innings and allowing three runs on four hits and six walks.

With the win Mohawk Valley improves to 15-6 on the season. With the loss Utica falls to 5-19 on the season.

Both teams have Tuesday off and return to action on Wednesday night.
