Dragons Rally in 11th to Top DiamondDawgs – June 10th

GLENS FALLS, N.Y. – During Military Appreciation Night at East Field in Glens Falls on Saturday, the Dragons embodied the spirit of the night, battling back from a two-run-deficit on three separate occasions to claim an 8-7 win over the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs.

In the second inning, Dalton Ney (Lee) and Jared Drizin (Bucknell) notched back-to-back singles, where Ney scored on a fielder’s choice by Owen Wosleger (American International).

The DiamondDawgs answered early in the third with an RBI single from Clay Koniencki (Monmouth) and a two-RBI single from Dan Deely (Sacramento St.) to take a 3-1 lead.

Glens Falls tied the game in the bottom of the fourth after a single from Brandon Torres (Oneonta) to bring in one runner, followed by a double from Brian Uliana (Rider) to send another across the plate, tying the game at 3-3.

Early in the sixth, Dragons replaced starting pitcher Brandon Budlong (Johnson & Wales) with Robert Paccione (LIU Post). A two-RBI single by Austin Pollack (Hofstra) gave Mohawk Valley the two-run lead back, now with a score of 5-3.

The Dragons fought back once again, tying the game in the seventh. Mohawk Valley introduced a new pitcher, Crandall Poore (Middle Georgia St.), who gave up an RBI single by Mark Powell (St. Rose) and an RBI sack-fly by Ryan Beamish (Lee) to once again even the score.

Zack Coker (Alabama) and Austin Pollack scored unearned runs to put Mohawk Valley back in front, 7-5 after the first half of the eleventh.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the eleventh, Mark Powell singled to left field, scoring Dalton Ney. There was an error on the throw to the plate as the ball sailed to the backstop, scoring Torres. Uliana rounded third and headed for home, and the throw back to home plate was also an errant throw, giving Uliana the chance to cross the plate for the game winning run.

It was the second time in three nights that the Dragons have had a walk-off win in the eleventh inning.

The wining pitcher was PJ Strahm (Bucknell). The losing pitcher was Zach Vennaro (Mount Olive).

The teams will go at it again tomorrow night, as the Dragons travel to Mohawk Valley with the first pitch scheduled for 6:35.
