Dawgs’ Ryan Hernandez named PGCBL’s Player of the Week – Week 1!

During each week of the 2018 PGCBL season, the league office will recognize one position player and one pitcher as the League’s Player and Pitcher of the Week. The first weekly honor encompasses the first ten days of the season, and spotlights a player from the league’s most dominant offensive team, and a pitcher that has started his season on a 16 inning scoreless streak.

The Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League is pleased to announce the selection of Mohawk Valley’s Ryan Hernandez (UAlbany) as the PGCBL Player of the Week.

Hernandez is the first DiamondDawg to earn the Player of the Week award since Mac Crispino (Fairfield) won it in the second to last week of 2016. Lubreski’s honor marks the second year in a row where a Geneva pitcher has been the Week 1 Pitcher of the Week, following Brian Reed (RIT).

In his first week with the DiamondDawgs, Hernandez batted .486 with 12 runs batted in and 11 runs scored. The UAlbany Great Dane has hit safely in all eight PGCBL games he has played in, and currently leads the league in batting average, hits (17), runs scored, and home runs (4). His signature performance came in the first game of a doubleheader against Adirondack on June 5, where he belted two homers in a 13-10 win. The Boston native drove in four runs in two different games to help the defending PGCBL Champions to a 5-3 start.

As a freshman at UAlbany, Hernandez led the 20-win Great Danes with 14 doubles, and started 46 of the team’s 48 games.
